Summer Programs for Undergraduate Research (SPUR)

This is a wonderful program if you are considering applying for grad school in psychology, and to support your study of diversity science. Upper division undergraduate students who show potential are paired with a UCLA faculty mentor to work on research projects for 8 weeks in the summer (late June to mid-August).

The program aims to match students to faculty members based on common interests.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to student diversity at UCLA, get involved intensely in research that interests you, and gain excellent training from a faculty mentor! The program also includes seminars on applying to grad school, GRE prep, and other opportunities that will put you on the right track.

There are 13 programs within SPUR, and applications are usually due in early February. In particular, students from underrepresented or economically disadvantaged backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Psychology Undergraduate Research Conference (PURC)

Each year the Department of Psychology at UCLA hosts its annual undergraduate research conference, which features research showcased in poster and paper talk sessions. As students across the country travel to UCLA to participate, PURC grows in visibility each year, and it is an honor to have your presentation accepted. The climate is stimulating, supportive, and friendly with UCLA faculty, staff, and graduate students moderating all the presentations and social events.

PURC is usually held in early May with applications due by early March. This provides an excellent venue to present the research you are conducting now, and gives you a great chance to come explore UCLA.
